About a week ago we had a pair of white canvas shoes from Tretorn when we listed a bunch of beautiful summer shoes. In some comments called shoes Gym-shoes. In others Plimsoles. We thought we would find out the name and give you a little background info on the white fabric top.
When the white tygskon began to be manufactured in the US at the end of the 1800s it used the revolutionary method – vulcanization. Warm up the rubber in the sole so that it could be fixed together with the upper part of the canvas. The shoe has since the beginning been part of the British school uniforms. In sports lesson was the Gym-shoes, otherwise, they wore on their feet. Like many other phenomena in vogue plimsollen went from being a formal athletic to end up at the feet of trend kids on the street.
This year Plimsollen fashion wise hot again and carried to advantage without socks with shorts or chinos. Looking for a nice picture for inspiration, I can recommend Lanvin’s men’s designer Lucas Ossendrijver when he is modeling the latest issue of Fantastic Man. Wearing a backpack, rolled up shirt, rolled-up chinos and Gym-shoes on his feet. Just that image can be found here
