Sardinia is an Italian island located in the Mediterranean Sea, south of the French island of Corsica. The island has a no less than eighteen hundred kilometers long coastline that has countless beautiful sandy beaches in the beautifully formed bays. Sardinia is especially popular among tourists who don’t have to lie on the beach among thousands of compatriots.

Sardinia ‘s Top 10 Things to Do

#1. Grotta di Nettuno
Probably the most beautiful excursion in Sardinia is the one to Grotta di Nettuno. These are translated the caves of Neptune, god of the sea. To the west of the city of Alghero are these caves which can be visited by boat or partly by car and then on foot. In a boat trip of about two hours you will of course get to see parts of the area, such as the beautiful bay of Porto Conte and the cliffs at Capo Caccia. In the cave many stalactites and stalagmites can be seen in bizarrely beautiful shapes. Please note that if you are going to make this trek on foot, you will have to descend a path with 654 steps along a steep rock.

#2. Cagliari
According to Themakeupexplorer, the capital of Sardinia is also the university city of the island. Cagliari has an important port. a Sardinian archaeological museum, a beautiful town hall and a beautiful castle on top of a hill. There is also a Roman amphitheater and nearby is the nuraghi village of Barumini ‘Nuraghe Su Nuraxi’. Here you will find a village from the Bronze Age with many typical built turrets as only found in Sardinia.

#3. La Maddalena Archipelago
The beautiful islands of the La Maddalena archipelago are part of the Parco Nationale Arcipelago di La-Maddalena nature reserve. Of the dozens of islands, seven are inhabited. These are the islands of La Maddalena, Razzoli, Santo Stefano, Caprera, Santa Maria, Spargi and Budelli. The largest island is La Maddalena. It is therefore the busiest tourist island of all. If you are looking for more peace and quiet then you should definitely visit the island of Caprera. You can enjoy snorkeling here or enjoy the view of the beautiful sea where dolphins can be spotted regularly.

#4. San Teodoro
The beautiful natural landscape and other hidden natural treasures can be found in and near the special place San Teodoro. There are beautiful beaches surrounded by wild rock formations. Along the coast in the various bays you will find very quiet but beautiful pearly white beaches. For example at Cala Girgolu, where you can dream away while looking over the horizon.

#5. Oristano
The main square of the city of Oristano is Piazza Roma. Here is the tower of St. Christopher from the 13th century. At night this square is a busy place for both tourists and locals. There are a number of churches to visit, including the San Francesco and the beautiful Duomo. Regularly, as in many places in Sardinia, various folk festivals are given, complete with the old-fashioned costume. Oristano also hosts the highly acclaimed ‘Sa Sartiglia’ equestrian festivals.

#6. Sardinia as Madurodam
Those who want to see everything of the island in a “nutshell” can easily visit Sardegna in Miniatura. Here you can decide for yourself what you would like to see in real life. All prominent buildings and monuments can be admired here in miniature. You can also go back to the Iron Age through the full-scale reconstruction of typical buildings and houses from that time. Here you will be taken through the history of this civilization through temporary inhabitants. There is also a Planetarium where you can take a journey between the stars and planets.

#7. Palau
Many different excursions depart from the port of Palau. This place in the north of Sardinia has a lively and pleasant harbor. There are not many historical sites in the place itself. What you should definitely do is visit the Maddalena archipelago from Palau with the city of La Maddalena on the south coast. It is not for nothing that the coast of Costa Smeralda is called ‘the Gold Coast’. There are beautiful marinas and there is a vibrant nightlife with clubs and discotheques.

The area belongs to the ‘Area Marina Protetta’. In the evening the entertainment can mainly be found in and around the old village square in the center of Villasimius. Here you will find some terraces and restaurants.

#10. Arzachena
In the popular north near Porto Cervo, La Maddalena and Porto Rotondo is the very touristic destination of Arzachena. Here you will find the monumental Tomba dei Giganti Coddu Vecchju. This burial chamber dates back to the Bronze Age, which was between 1800-1600 BC. Many valuable excavations have already been done in the immediate vicinity, the results of which can be found in the Sanna Museum in Sassari. You will also find the Li Muri Necropolis nearby. These are a number of circular graves that some people think you can experience magical powers. Still not everything around this place has been solved.
